Implementation of consensus infobox changes for current seasons
[edit]At Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)/Archive_172#Designating_current_seasons_in_infoboxes, I read clear consensus to use text rather than images to designate the current season. I went ahead and made the change at {{Infobox award}}, but since I'm not a sports person, I'll leave the implementation for sports templates such as {{Infobox football league}} to you all here. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 21:35, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- I've added a DNAU tag to this thread; feel free to remove it once you have finished implementation. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 20:49, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

New article: Sports fandom
[edit]Mine - enjoy, and feel free to improve; there are many reliable sources (just GScholar for the term...). I am surprised such a major topic was missing... . Should sports fan redirect there now? There is a section in the main sports article for fans (not fandom); mostly unreferenced. I think the section in my article is better - shorter but referenced. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:36, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for creating the new article. From a cursory read, it does need copy-editing, mainly for grammar, so I've tagged it with {{copy edit}} accordingly. Left guide (talk) 10:25, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Left guide Can you help? This template will disqualify the article from DYK nom :( Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:02, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Piotrus: Proper grammar isn't a policy, it's more of a nice-to-have, which is why the tag is yellow-bordered as opposed to orange-bordered which is for policy violations. It's not mentioned at WP:DYKCITE, so it shouldn't disqualify the DYK. Left guide (talk) 11:19, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Left guide Well, I am curious what will happen - will ping you if someone complains :) Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:44, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Piotrus: Ok, I read through the whole article and cleaned up all of the grammar I could and removed the tag. Good luck with the DYK. :) Left guide (talk) 11:54, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Left guide Much appreciated :) Any thoughts on the sports fan redirect target? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:49, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Piotrus: I think that sports fan should redirect to the new sports fandom article, seems much more intuitive. Left guide (talk) 21:18, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- The whole sports fandom article seems to be a WP:CFORK from Fan (person)#Sports. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:46, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Joseph2302 Errr, I looked at your contributions and you are not a newbie... but I think you clearly misunderstand CFORK. What we have at the main fan article, sport section, is WP:TNTable, as it is WP:OR that fails WP:V. Except the referenced bit at the top, which I reused into my article, it pretty much needs to be deleted, then it could be recreated from what I wrote. The article I created meets all Wikipedia policies, an existence of a (badly written) section about the topic in a parent article is not a reason not to create an article (although it can delay that process, as many people will accept crappy content and move on, instead of trying to remedy the issue...). But if you disagree, feel free to WP:AFD the new article and enjoy snow keep and WP:TROUT... Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:55, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Or maybe not. As CFORK says, "Most types of content forks are acceptable". So maybe I am misunderstanding whatever you meant to say, which I thought was an argument that the new article should be deleted? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:56, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Whilst the content at Sports fandom is better than the content at Fan (person)#Sports, that doesn't address the fact that all of this cited content could just have been added to Fan (person)#Sports, instead of the creation of a separate article, which doesn't seem at all necessary. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:15, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- If a topic is notable, it merits a subarticle. If you disagree, try AfD. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:11, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

Notable call? Delete?
[edit]I’ve been looking for sources about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:VC_Maaseik can’t seem to say it meets notable claims. Can only find three articles that aren’t actually about the team but a specific player. But I don’t feel confident to delete. Advice would be good! Cansavvy (talk) 23:41, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- It's been tagged for sourcing for over a year. Sometimes it takes an AfD for significant coverage to surface (even for subjects in English), if they exist. —Bagumba (talk) 00:48, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry what does AfD stand for? Cansavvy (talk) 00:59, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- Ah found it. Article for deletion. Cansavvy (talk) 01:03, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- So should it get deleted or just hangout? Cansavvy (talk) 01:04, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- If you dont feel it meets the notability guidelines, it's your call if you want to volunteer to nominate it for WP:AFD. That leads to a community discussion, and its fate will be decided by consensus. As it seems you have performed the steps at WP:BEFORE already, it seems reasonable if you choose to initiate a deletion discussion. —Bagumba (talk) 01:40, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- I have to think though that it ought to be pretty damn easy to find Belgian sources for a club that's won half of the Belgian top flight championships in the last thirty years. Ravenswing 04:47, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- So should it get deleted or just hangout? Cansavvy (talk) 01:04, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

Defunct events
[edit]I’m getting stuck on finding sources for documenting defunct sled dog races, a lot of them just disappear with no coverage. The one I’d really like a source for is Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race, as it has its own Wikipedia page. List of sled dog races has at least two more without their own articles: MusherIce 150 and Volga Quest.
Any tips? Annwfwn (talk) 12:24, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
